This chassis kit comes complete with a bespoke drive mechanism that's part of the compensation unit. This ensures smooth trouble free running at both high and low speeds at all times.
The chassis was designed to be a direct replacement for the Alexander Models and Nu-Cast rigid chassis and has addressed the problem that all 0-4-4T wheel arrangement models have, being bunker heavy by using a weight transference system from the compensated bogie to the gearbox/ compensation unit.
The EM gauge version fits under the Alexander body with only one modification to the footplate in the bunker area to accomodate the extra width of the EM frames. The OO version doesn't nee this modification. The Nu-Cast body is slightly narrower across the front splashers and we have included a pair of front splasher overlays for EM modellers as it's almost a certainty that you'll break through the splashers when opening them out to accept EM wheels and axles.
Prototypical brakes, rigging are removable to assist in wheel fitting and removal. The lower firebox and ashpan detail significantly enhance the appearance below the footplate.
The kit comes with 8 pages of comprehensive assembly instructions, a parts list and a 3D assembly diagram. All you need to finish the chassis is the appropriate Mashima motor.

The Alexander body fits onto our new Easi-Rider chassis with only one modification to the footplate. The cutaway at the rear has to be opened out to 14.5mm to accommodate the chassis. All the other modifications on the main frames of the original have been incorporated into our new chassis. This shot shows the new removable brake gear and rigging to good effect. The builder is able to add an additional touch of realism by the brake shoes being in very close proximity to the wheel rims. The carefully calculated length of the pull rods and the position of the brake anchor points ensure that even with the compensation unit on full deflection the brake shoes can't contact the wheel rims and cause a short circuit.
The Gibson wheel set used on this model is available from us and costs £18.00 if ordered with one of our chassis. This model will negotiate less tan 24" radius curves in EM gauge.

In case you're planning to use the Nu-Cast body, I've included a pair of front splasher overlays as it's virtually certain that you'll break through the front splashers while working in EM.
The chassis has full profile frames where applicable, fully detailed brake gear and rigging, detailed ash pan and has fully compensated driving and bogie wheels and a movable bogie pivot. Weight transference from the bogie pivot to the back of the gearbox is by a pivoting beam. This ensures a self levelling ride height under all conditions of operation. Having both sets of wheels compensated and a system of weight transferrence between the bogie and driving wheels should solve the inherent bunker heavy tendency of this type of wheel arrangement.

This system of self levelling ensures that the bogie wheels cannot come int contact with the chassis cutaways around the wheels allowing a much smaller cutaway and significantly enhancing the appearence of the chassis. The drive mechanism is designed around a Mashima 1420 motor for EM modellers and a OO version will use a Mashima 1020 motor which is a 5-pole, skew wound unit and significantly better than its larger 12 series cousin. The cross bacing above the bogie mounting was a significant feature on the original loco and this bracing was used to anchor the rear draw hook. On the model it serves to stiffen up the chassis around the bogie pivot sub assembly slots.
We've made one or two minor alterations to the chassis in the interests of practicality and the new chassis is available for sale direct from 52F models now.
This chassis is available in EM & OO gauges now at a cost of £50.00 for each version including 1st class P&P, UK Mailland only. Overseas postage will be charged at cost. Cheques should be made payable to "Peter Stanger"
