Robinson / Gresley Passenger Tank Engine LNER/BR Class A5/2 4-6-2T.

02/11/2009 The trial chassis etch will be on display at the Blyth & Diatrict MR Show on the 28th and 29th of November 2009.

Our latest project is a complete etched kit for an LNER/BR class A5/2.  The chassis has been designed and 3D modelled and the design and modelling of the superstructure is progressing favourably.

Initially it was intended that all 12 wheels would be compensated and that weight transferrence would play a significant part in the construction.  3D modelling proved that this wasn't practical but we've still managed to achieve compensation on all 12 wheels. The bogie wheels and the radial truck will be load bearing to ensure maximum axle load on the driving wheels.

The frames feature full profile where possible and have been considerably strengthened in the areas where they were most vulnerable.  We are particularly pleased with the bogie design and the incorporation of realistic looking external compensation beams and springs. (See above image).

The trailing axle will be a radial truck and the frames have been waisted behind the third coupled axle just like the prototype.  This will allow about 1.5mm per side movement on the radial truck.

The coupling rods are made up from 12 individual pieces allowing the use of a prototypical looking forked joint.

The drive unit follows proven Easi-Rider practice and incorporates copensation beams and a custom drive train as well as a motor mount for a Mashima 1420 flat can motor.

The brake gear is realistic in appearance and has a 12" Westinghouse brake cylinder mounted between the frames.  The brakes and rigging are designed to be removable.

We are only about 1 month away from producing our first test etch for the chassis.  When I've built the first off chassis, I'll be posting photographs on this page.

Reid NBR Class J, LNER BR Class D29/D30 Loco and Tender chassis kit.
02/11/2009  This chassis is aimed at replacing the rigid chassis supplied with the PDK kit.  Wewill also produce a different version for the NBR Class K, LNER/BR Class D34.  Both kits will feature full length frames and will have 8 brake hangers on the driving wheels.  The brakes will have prototypical rigging and stretchers.

All 8 wheels will be compensated to ensure that the model rides level uner all operating conditions.  The bogie and the external compensation beams are very similar to the rendered drawing of the A5/2 bogie.

Both kits will feature an all new tender chassis.

The etch for the EM gauge D30 version will be on show at the Blyth & District MR Show on the 28th and 29th of November 2009.

Raven T3, LNER/BR Class Q7 Loco and Tender chassis kit.

02/11/2009  This chassis is designed to replace the rigid chassis supplied with the DJH kit.

The initial version will be for EM gauge modellers and will feature all 8 driving wheels compensated in 2 pairs of 2-axles, the same as is used on our current production Q6.  The rear compensation unit accomodates a 54:1, 2-stage reduction gearbox and a motor mount for a Mashima 1420 vertically mounted motor (not supplied).

The removable brakes and rigging is prototypical in appearance.  The coupling rods are made up from 18 individual etches and the prototypical joints are rivetted together.  The chassis has all new etched cylinders and the motion brachet is now double thickness with half etched detail on both sides.  It's finished off with an etched wrapper.

A first for us is the use of 4-piece etched crossheads to provide maximum clearance between the coupling rod nut and the crosshead when modelling in EM or P4. Provision has been made  to allow the use of the mechanical lubricator gear on each side of the model, driven from the 2nd driving axle crankpin.

The etch for the EM gauge version Q7 chassis will be on show at the Blyth & District MR Show on the 28th and 29th of November 2009.
